About Us

The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technologies to Support Aging-in-Place for People with Long-Term Disabilities (RERC TechSAge) is a collaborative grant center based at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. TechSAge is now also affiliated with Georgia State University with the new appointment of Co-Director Jon Sanford. Founded in 2013, TechSAge features multidisciplinary research, development, and training projects that are dedicated to understanding the needs of, and developing supportive technologies for, people aging with long-term disabilities. This center is supported by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).

Interdisciplinary Problem Solving

We are a community of researchers that believe in the power of working together across disciplines to solve complex challenges facing individuals aging with disability. TechSAge researchers represent diverse areas of expertise including: engineering (rehab, industrial, and electrical), assistive technology, architecture, psychology, kinesiology, computer science, gerontology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, community health, and industrial design.
