Dr. Joy Hammel, PhD, OTR/L, is a Professor and the Wade Meyer Endowed Chair in the Departments of Occupational Therapy and Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She identifies as a disabled woman, scholar and advocate.  Her research centers on community-based, participatory action research done in collaboration with disability and aging communities, and focuses on identifying and strategizing environmental barriers and supports to full societal participation of people with disabilities.  She is the Co-PI on the ADA Participation Action Research Consortium (ADA PARC) center grant funded by NIDILRR that examines and documents participation disparities since the passage of the ADA.
